The Spiritual Paternity Test
It’s time we got something straight.
There’s one thing that above all proves you’ve been filled with the Holy Spirit of the living God.
There are gifts. There are fruit. There’s even evidence.
But none of those are the undeniable proof that His Spirit lives in you.
Jesus said it.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
– Acts 1:8
Receive what? Power
Why? Be (my) witnesses.
That’s the proof.
Let me put it this way.
The older I get the more I realize how much I’m becoming like my dad. We watch old family videos and I even sound like him. I catch myself saying things to my kids that he said to me 20 years ago.
Proof that I’m his son, right?
But couldn’t someone else look like him? Couldn’t someone else have his voice?
Someone else may even have the same dad-phrases.
They could have seen him around town and intentionally tried to be like him. Or maybe it was just a happy accident.
They might be mistaken as his son or daughter.
But they aren’t.
There’s one thing that can’t be faked.
It goes down to the cellular level. The blood that flows through my veins tells a story. It points back to my lineage. Echoing my legacy.
In the same way, there’s a spiritual paternity test that proves His fire runs through our veins:
A powerful witness.
Remember, it’s an upside down kingdom. First are last, leaders are servants, and freedom comes from surrender.
Power appears in realized weakness.
We must remain humble and get ourselves out of the way to allow His power to work through us.
Some days a powerful witness may be as simple as what you carry in your presence—a positive attitude or strong work ethic.
Other days it might mean laying hands on the sick, sharing a word, or calling someone into the resurrection power of Jesus.
It’s all powerful. And it’s all because you’ve been filled with the Holy Spirit and allow him to work through you.
Wake up each day this week and live like a witness worthy of your lineage.
It’s not pretending.
It’s not striving.
It’s in your blood.
“In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved.”
– Ephesians 1:5-6

I am a father to 3 powerful littles and married to my best friend. My wife says I'm proficient in quoting The Office, a jack of all trades and I am convinced that popcorn with apple juice is the best remedy for a hard day. No judgment! I spend my days brainstorming and perfecting good communication with a team of passionate creatives. And I believe that being in relationship with the Father should be, and is, simple. I'll spend my whole life on Him and never regret a single moment. Won’t you join me?
